R&B singer Giveon won his first BET Award on June 27. He celebrated his accomplishment on social media.

Giveon wrote on Twitter with tears of joy, “My first award!! Thank you to all of my fans and to @bet for making this possible.”

The “Heartbreak Anniversary” singer won the 2021 BET Award for Best New Artist. The award show’s theme was “Year of the Black Woman” and had a socially distant in-person ceremony with vaccinated guests. Last year’s BET Awards were held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Giveon wasn’t present at the ceremony, he walked the red carpet wearing a sophisticated black and white outfit.

Giveon rose to fame in 2020 with his song with Drake, “Chicago Freestyle.” He is also featured in Justin Bieber’s hit, “Peaches.”

Fans praised the singer’s win on Twitter.
