Riley Keough Discusses Singing Voice in ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’
Riley Keough has been acting in various films throughout the 2000s, such as Mad Max: Fury Road, American Honey, and more recently Zola. Despite being a talented actress, Keough has never pursued her singing voice on television until now. Keough will be starring in the Amazon series Daisy Jones and the Six, which is based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
The musical drama Daisy Jones and the Six will consist of 12 episodes. The series will follow Daisy (Keough) and Billy Dunne (Sam Chaflin) battling the rise and fall of a prolific rock band set in Los Angeles in the 1970s. Relationships are complicated and put to the test, as Billy, the charismatic frontman, has intense feelings for Daisy, his songwriting partner.

Keough spoke in an interview with Variety about her singing voice, specifically, the comparisons that can be found between her very musical family. Keough is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and Danny Keough, both musicians. Her mother is the daughter of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, making Keough Elvis’ grandaughter. Keough is expecting the comparisons to The King, but adamantly maintains that her voice sounds nothing like his. She tells Variety, “I just realized recently that I do have kind of a country voice. I realized the other day in the studio — we’ve recorded a bunch of songs — I think I have a country voice.”
Keough lives a very private life, but she found herself in the spotlight once again when it had been revealed that she provided background vocals to Orville Peck’s rendition of “Born The Way” (The Country Road Version) for Lady Gaga’s re-release of her iconic album, Born This Way. In honor of the ten-year anniversary, Gaga enlisted allies of the LGBTQ community to help reimagine her classic songs. Peck asked her to sing vocals; Keough found it to be a no-brainer, simply because it is Lady Gaga.
