Shawn Mendes Hopes to Be Better in Relationship With Camila Cabello
22-year-old singer Shawn Mendes recently opened up about a fight with his girlfriend, 24-year-old singer Camila Cabello, and how that inspired him to become a better boyfriend.
Per Etalk, Shawn Mendes appeared on the Man Enough podcast and talked about his recent fight with Camila Cabello. He told host Justin Baldoni that he raised his voice at her and instantly regretted it. The “In My Blood” singer said, “I raised my voice at her, and she was like, ‘I don’t like it when you raise your voice. Why did you raise your voice?’ And I got so defensive. I was like, ‘I wasn’t raising my voice at you!’ And I did raise my voice at her. And then I felt her shrink and I felt me grow, and I was like, ‘Oh god, this is the worst.'”
Mendes expressed his worries about becoming evil. “Maybe there even is bad inside of me, and I have to just accept that that exists. And that other part of me, he’s just got to be here, and we’ve just got to work together until eventually he gets worked in all of the trauma, and all of the kinks get rubbed out of him, and he’s okay.” He realized that he can’t avoid the darkness in him, but “…Letting that darkness kind of be present is a horrible feeling.”
After their argument, Cabello comforted Mendes, who apologized for his behavior. The couple had a conversation to understand each other, and Mendes said he is working on being better. “You think you’re being vulnerable but really you’re just defending yourself even better.” The two have been friends since 2014 and made their relationship public in the summer of 2019.
Fans on Twitter were inspired by the singer’s honesty.
