Margot Robbie Admits To Being Under A Lot Of Pressure Playing ‘Barbie’ In New Upcoming Live-Action Film
Margot Robbie admits that taking on the role of Barbie for the upcoming live-action film has been a great amount of pressure. Although the budding star was ecstatic about taking on the iconic role, the role itself comes with a lot of baggage.
Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie admits that her role in taking on the nostalgic character of Barbie for the live-action film has its slight disadvantages despite her substantial amount of gratefulness for the opportunity.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Robbie said:
“Right, it comes with a lot of baggage! And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”

She does look like a real living Barbie doll in real life.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they play the theme song by Aqua! 😳https://t.co/JkcLRT4Xio
With the addition of Greta Gerwig directing the film, who is responsible for Lady Bird and Little Women, fans can expect a different storytelling approach as opposed to the usual fashionista and boy-crazy tropes. Perhaps, this refreshing approach can be more uplifting and equally inspiring for younger audiences.
Robbie remains sternly adamant about changing the common perspective of female representation in the film industry. The eclectic star dedicates herself to portraying strong female characters in her roles, such as Promising Young Woman. Without a doubt, the collaboration between herself and Gerwig will serve a much deeper and creative take on the story of the iconic doll.
The storyline details and premiere date for the live-action film for Barbie have not been confirmed yet. However, anticipating fans can follow Robbie’s official Instagram account to stay updated.
