On July 8, Netflix announced that Bridgerton producer Shonda Rhimes extended her deal with the streaming service. The new deal has expanded to include Rhimes’ company named Shondaland and the 51-year-old producer’s partner Betsy Beers.

After a four-year partnership with Netflix, Shonda Rhimes has officially decided to continue forward with an expanded “creative content relationship.” Before, Rhimes had only a merchandise and brand deal with Netflix, but now it will be expanding further with live events and experiences. Unexpectedly, the Bridgerton producer also has an opportunity to potentially produce and distribute gaming and virtual reality content and feature films.

Equally important to the deal, Netflix has agreed to invest in programs that “increase industry workplace representation for underrepresented groups both domestically and in the UK,” and this will support Shondaland’s mission to create DEIA.

In a press release, Rhimes explained that she took a chance moving her company Shondaland from television to the streaming company Netflix. Despite the uncertainty Rhimes once felt, the producer stated, “Today, Shondaland at Netflix is creatively thriving, profitable as an asset and engaging audiences around the world with stories that fearlessly challenge viewers and keep them highly entertained all at once.”

Shonda Rhimes is an award-winning writer and producer, and the CEO of the global media company Shondaland. If you’re interested in supporting Rhimes and her career, you can stream the television drama called Bridgerton on Netflix. In the future, fans of Rhimes can look forward to an upcoming series the producer created called Inventing Anna. The series is set to be released in 2022, stars Julia Garner, Anna Chlumsky, Katie Lowes, Laverne Cox, and Alexis Floyd.
