Laci Mosley Opens Up About the Racism She Faced After the New ‘iCarly’ Revival Announcement
After Laci Mosley was announced to be joining the iCarly cast, the 30-year-old actress received racist messages on social media. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Mosley spoke out about her experience.
I just want to thank some of the Black creatives who supported me during my difficult times. I will always uplift y’all we have each other! @chescaleigh @YNB @Blacktress @janellejcomedy @Justsydnyc @BernardDJones @KrystinaArielle @GabrielleDennis & MANY more!! THANK YOU! https://t.co/mU0jEwo6eI

For Mosley, the journey to being cast in iCarly began during a zoom call with Ali Schouten, the sitcom’s showrunner. Mosley told the Los Angeles Times that while talking with Schouten in the zoom call, the actress confidently believed the role was meant for her. Without a doubt, Mosley was cast to portray the character Harper, who is Carly’s best friend on the show.
Leave #LaciMosley alone! She is an amazing person & wonderful actress. These racist stans have gone to far once again. We dont want yalls disgusting hate over here. Remove yourself from the ICarly community if U are full of hate #iCarly #Icarlyreboot @iCarly #HateSpeech #blm https://t.co/1djq6BYcXG

Once Mosley’s role was announced, she was flooded with racist messages and slurs. According to the Times, many sending targeted comments complained about Mosley being the “Black replacement” of Sam Puckett, Jennette McCurdy’s previous role on the show.
Addressing the racist comments towards herself and the role of Harper, Mosley stated, “She’s not a replacement of Sam. She’s not a substitution. She’s a completely different person.” The actress continued, “She’s queer, she’s Black — and not in a stereotypical way. We don’t even address her queerness as something odd. Harper never has a coming out. She’s just queer. It’s normal.” Despite speaking out about the hateful experiences and many coming to Mosley’s defense, the American actress still receives racist messages on social media.
Hate that Laci Mosley got so much hate when she was casted. She’s been excellent in iCarly and is honestly one of my favorite parts.

Mosley ended the interview by explaining how Black women fight for their “share” constantly without help from anyone. Mosley stated, “Black women deserve protection. We deserve care.”
