BTS Performs New Single ‘Permission to Dance’ For First Time Ever
K-pop supergroup BTS kicks off their two-day Tonight Show takeover by delivering a debut performance of their new summer single “Permission to Dance.” Day one also included a short but sweet interview and hilarious responses to supposed band rumors.
On June 14 (midnight EST), legendary BTS made a special appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. As advertised all week, the seven members charmingly performed their latest optimistic song, “Permission to Dance.” While bundles of purple balloons elegantly wrapped the set, the artists sang their hearts out in preppy, youthful fits. The boys were also able to showcase the hit’s entire choreography, part of which strives at inclusivity with the incorporation of international sign language for “fun,” “dance,” and “peace.” Fans took in the show with admiration before heading to social media to show support for their idols.

Before their performance, BTS partook in a memorable interview with dear friend Jimmy Fallon. Besides gushing over the band’s recent accomplishments, from a Grammy nomination to topping the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with “Butter” for the 7th week in a row, Fallon made sure to squeeze in some quality talking time.

When referring to “Permission to Dance,” leader RM stated, “PTD is a song that will get everyone’s heart pumping and dancing again…” in addition to teasing upcoming YouTube shorts. Fallon and BTS also made sure to hint at a possible rescheduled tour-if that wasn’t already enough exciting news. “Get ready guys. Get ready,” RM hyped up the crowd with hands held endearingly over his heart.

Wrapping up the conversation, Fallon joked with the septet by revealing a throwback photo and reading up on some old BTS gossip. One of the interesting rumors they confirmed was the option to call fans Bell instead of ARMY. “Yeah so it’s kind of true,” the members thoughtfully recalled. “[BTS] stands for ‘Bangtan’ in Korean and when you say ‘bell’ in Korean it sounds like ‘bang-wool,’ so it starts with the same word, ‘bang.’” To see the full explanation, be sure to check out the video here.
With such an eventful first day of the BTS Tonight Show festivity, fans can not wait to see what else the members have in store. Until more music news is dropped, see the debut performance for “Permission to Dance” above.
