Celebrating ‘Legally Blonde’: Twenty Years Later
What, like it’s hard? It’s been twenty years since Reese Witherspoon captivated audiences with her portrayal of Elle Woods in the cult classic 2001 film, Legally Blonde. Directed by Robert Luketic, the film also stars Selma Blair, Linda Cardellini, Jennifer Coolidge, Victor Garber, and Luke Wilson. Legally Blonde follows Elle Woods (Witherspoon) and her journey to Harvard Law School in hopes of winning back the man of her dreams: Warner Huntington III (Matthew Davis). Along the way, the blonde bombshell and pink-obsessed fashion queen will eventually find her calling: the law.
To commemorate the twentieth anniversary, Witherspoon took to her social media accounts to share her love and appreciation for the character of Elle Woods, the role of a lifetime. Witherspoon established herself before Legally Blonde, where she starred in Election and Cruel Intentions, another cult classic. Legally Blonde, however, became Witherspoon’s first box office smash. Witherspoon thanked fans for everything they have done in order to keep Legally Blonde alive after all this time.
Selma Blair, who played Vivian Kensington, Elle’s arch-nemesis-turned BFF in the film, also paid tribute to the anniversary of Legally Blonde. Blair shared love for her co-stars as well as the fans.
Legally Blonde has continued to gain popularity each and every year, especially after Ariana Grande shared her take as Elle Woods in her iconic 2019 music video, “thank u, next.” Grande featured Jennifer Coolidge in the video, shocking fans.
