Shakira Teases New Music With #DontWaitUp

Shakira is making her classic return to music by teasing fans that a new single titled “Don’t Wait Up” will be released Friday, July 16.

Speculation about the Colombian singer’s return to music and sexuality started as fans noticed a change to the singer’s profile picture and social media layout on her profiles. Fans noticed that the colors of the lesbian flag were added as Shakira’s profile picture and before long, the #ShakiraisComing was trending on Twitter. 

Not long after, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer dropped a teaser announcing her upcoming single. Using a text message exchange posted on Instagram on July 13, Shakira announced her newest single, “Don’t Wait Up,” which received almost 160,000 likes. 

The album cover was released shortly afterward and became the singer’s latest profile picture, and with that, the #Don’tWaitUp was born. Fans all over the world expressed their excitement for the new single and the possible announcement of Shakira’s sexuality.

When we last saw Shakira, she showed off her skateboarding skills in the “Girl Like Me” music video collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas. Before that, she joined Jennifer Lopez in 2020 with a jaw-dropping Latin-style Superbowl LIV halftime show. In addition, she made a hit single, “Me Gusta,” with Anuel AA discussing relationship problems and love.
