Alessia Cara Shares New Songs ‘Sweet Dream’ and ‘Shapeshifter’
Alessia Cara has shared two new singles: “Sweet Dream” and “Shapeshifter.” The Grammy award-winning singer released both tracks into the world across all major music platforms on July 15.
Cara laid out the groundwork for fans about what to expect for her highly anticipated third studio album. Cara offers insight on her upcoming album, where she discusses a common thread that runs throughout her album, the thread being duality. After her last album, The Pains of Growing, Cara has decided to explore “both sides of a coin,” that being Cara herself and her feelings.

Cara begins with the track, “Sweet Dream,” which she describes as a song that “represents the hardship and helplessness surrounding my last couple of years.” She elaborates that the song explores her battle with insomnia. The song pleads with her mind wishing she could close her eyes and sleep like everyone else, but bad dreams instead plague her.

Cara then uses three adjectives to describe “Sweet Dream”: delirious, vulnerable, and whimsical. She also shared a music video to “Sweet Dream,” adding to fans’ excitement.
On the other side of the coin lies “Shapeshifter.” This part of the album is more sophisticated and fiery compared to the other half. Cara writes that she “had to experience different forms of pain to regain my footing.” She then follows up with the joke, “(got my feelings hurt whatever).”
