Somi Will Make Her Long-Awaited Comeback in August
It is official that Jeon Somi, signed under YG Entertainment’s Black Label, will make her long-awaited comeback after one year. Last summer, the soloist released her hit single “What You Waiting For,” which gave Some her first music show win on M Countdown. Since then, fans have been anxiously waiting for her return to the industry.
Somi’s company announced the comeback release date on July 14. The highly-anticipated album will drop on August 2. Since her debut in 2019, she has only released two singles. Her debut single was titled “Birthday,” which showed off the singer’s youthful and bright energy. Somi flaunted her ability to capture the audience’s attention with her facial expressions, dancing, and vocal range. Her second single, “What You Waiting For,” was released a little more than a year after “Birthday.” The track gave audiences a peek at Somi’s mature side.

The twenty-year-old artist has already made a name for herself in the industry. After appearing on JYP Entertainment’s reality TV show Sixteen, which would later create Twice, she skyrocketed to fame. At the time, Somi was only fourteen years old and competed among other fourth-generation artists such as ITZY’s Chaeryeong.
Soon afterward, Somi appeared on the first Produce 101 show in 2016 at the age of fifteen. She finished in first place with a guaranteed spot on the new girl group I.O.I’s roster. Other members of this group include fellow soloist CHUNG HA, Weki Meki’s Kim Doyeon, and aspiring actress Kim Sejeong.
Watch out for news of Somi’s upcoming album on her Twitter and Instagram accounts.
