Zoey Deutch, Leslie Grace, and Others Audition for The New ‘Batgirl’ Movie
Many celebrities are dueling it out for the role in the new Batgirl movie. The Politician star Zoey Deutch and In the Heights star Leslie Grace to name are battling for the role of Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, in an upcoming HBO Max film. Other names like Instant Family star Isabela Merced and Five Feet Apart star Haley Lu Richardson have auditioned for the part.

Based on the DC comics, the Batgirl comics center around Barabara Gordon, Commissioner James Gordon’s daughter, who worked for Batman. Like her male counterpart, she’s a genius who follows her instincts and lives a double life. By day she’s the ordinary daughter of Commissioner Gordon and, by night, a butt-kicking superhero. In addition, she is a part of the Dark Knight and Birds of Prey.

The details of the movie are being kept secret except that Barbra Gordon will be the one protecting Gotham. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will serve as directors while Christina Hodson writes the script and Kristina Burr produces. The movie will be streaming on HBO Max once it releases.
“She’s been through so many iterations,” Hodson said during an interview, “There are certain characteristics of hers that are always there that I’m excited to develop further. Whenever I’m writing a character who’s based on someone who’s existed in a previous form, whether it’s comics or a movie or anything, I always hope to bring something new to them and bring them to life in their own way, even if they fairly iconic like Harley Quinn or Batgirl. I think fans want the original, to be honest, but they also want to see something they haven’t seen before.”
Warner Bros has been busy releasing DC movies back to back. Zach Snider’s Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984 were released this year. The Suicide Squad hits theaters next month: Aquaman 2 and The Flash release in 2022. Now, Robert Pattinson’s The Batman and Batgirl are in the works. Moreover, The Harley Quinn Show is getting another season. While fans wait for more information about Batgirl, all DC films are available to watch on HBO MAX.
