Chloé Zhao and Cynthia Erivo Set to Be on Venice Film Festival Jury

On July 21, Chloé Zhao and Cynthia Erivo were announced by La Biennale di Venezia to be a part of the Venice Film Festival Jury. The two jurors will join South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho and other significant personalities in selecting awards for the Venezia 78 Competition.

On July 21, Chloé Zhao and Cynthia Erivo were announced by La Biennale di Venezia to be a part of the Venice Film Festival Jury. The two jurors will join South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho and other significant personalities in selecting awards for the Venezia 78 Competition.

According to La Biennale di Venezia, the entire jury will include Chloé Zhao, Cynthia Erivo, Saverio Costanzo, Virginie Efira, Sarah Gadon, Alexander Nanau, and Bong Joon Ho as the president.

Born in Beijing, Chloé Zhao is a talented director, screenwriter, editor, and producer. The 39-year-old Chinese filmmaker debuted with her 2015 feature called Songs My Brothers Taught Me. She is best known for directing and writing the 2020 film Nomadland, which won multiple awards, including the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion.

Cynthia Erivo, who is an English actress and singer-songwriter, has received four nominations in total from the Golden Globes and Oscars for her role in Harriet. Additionally, Erivo has received a Tony Award and a Grammy Award for her Broadway performance in The Color Purple.

Currently, the Venezia 78 Competition awards include the Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize, Silver Lion for Best Director, Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, Special Jury Prize, Award for Best Screenplay, and the “Marcello Mastroianni” Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress.

From September 1 to 11, the 78 Venice International Film Festival will take place where the award winners will be revealed. Till then, you can watch Zhao’s Nomadland or Erivo’s role in Harriet on Hulu.
