Jennifer Hudson Flexes Her Vocals in New Teaser for Upcoming Aretha Franklin Biopic ‘Respect’
Jennifer Hudson unleashed her best Aretha Franklin voice, earning everyone’s R-E-S-P-E-C-T in the new teaser for the upcoming biopic, Respect. Her show-stopping performance is the first significant footage from the biopic, set to arrive in theaters this summer.
Hudson perfectly portrays Aretha Franklin in newly released footage for the upcoming biopic, Respect. Although she is not Aretha herself, the singer effortlessly hits every note and ensures her vocals do not disappoint.
In the new teaser, Hudson appears as young Franklin on stage in a sparkling sky blue, angelic gown performing the iconic song, “Respect.” A group of chanting background dancers back the singer as she lets out her euphonious vocals before a lively crowd. The new clip is enough to send an electric sense of nostalgia down any fans’ spine.

According to Rolling Stone, Hudson stated, “When I look back on my career, Aretha was like the blueprint of it all. It was like it was destiny in a way.”
A well-known cast will accompany Hudson on screen, including Marlon Wayans, Forest Whitaker, Mary J. Blige, Audra McDonald, Tituss Burgess, and Marc Maron. The biopic was directed by The Walking Dead director Liesl Tommy and written by Tracey Scott Wilson and Callie Khouri.
