Girls’ Generation Will Reportedly Appear on ‘Yoo Quiz on the Block’
Girls’ Generation is one of the only remaining second-generation girl groups whose members are still going strong. Many members have become solo artists, while others have turned to act in K-dramas or make reality TV show appearances. Although the girls have remained in the spotlight since their debut in 2007, they stopped promoting as a whole in 2017. Since then, Sooyoung, Seohyun, and Tiffany decided not to resign with SM Entertainment, eliminating any hope of the girl group being together again. That was until Girls’ Generation members reportedly began to plan a reunion on Jae-suk’s reality TV show, Yoo Quiz on the Block, for the first time in four years.
The remaining members stayed with SM Entertainment, but they never officially disbanded the group or any future activities. Nevertheless, the other five members debuted as a subunit called Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG, releasing the hit single “Lil’ Touch” during the summer of 2018.
I'm so obsessed with Weekend by Taeyeon. Everything about this comeback is so freaking remarkable, from the aesthetic to the song. Chef's kiss. pic.twitter.com/6TC12VUbzl

Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG has not released music since, but many of the girls had already made solo debuts while SNSD, the group’s Korean name, was still active. Taeyeon released her debut EP I in 2015, while Tiffany’s debut EP I Just Wanna Dance came out in 2016. Seohyun had her debut EP Don’t Say No, which she released in early 2017—the same year she left. Hyoyeon has already been releasing solo singles under her rapper stage name DJ HYO since 2016. In 2018, both Yuri and Yoona had their debut EP called The First Scene at the same time as Sooyoung’s debut single, “Winter Breath,” after leaving SM Entertainment. Meanwhile, Sunny has not released anything since 2018 with Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG.

Although the members have gone their separate way, fans have praised them for their diversity and growth as a veteran K-pop group. The girls also continue to support each other’s activities, indicating that they may still be in contact and are likely on good terms. It has been a long wait for the girls to come together again, and SNSD fans are more than excited to see them all on the same screen for the first time in a long while with the surprise announcement for Jae-suk’s reality TV show Yoo Quiz on the Block.

SONEs—Girls’ Generation fans—have already seen so much new content released in 2021 thus far with Taeyeon’s comeback “Weekend,” Tiffany becoming a mentor on the new competition show Girls Planet 999, and DJ HYO’s return TBD sometime in August. The girls have been hinting at a full reunion for some time. They have been seen together on reality TV shows previously, with only two or three there at a time. Finally, SONEs can get closure or even hope for a comeback of some sort.

Although nothing is confirmed, the direction of the news so far has been positive.
