Emma Stone Is Reportedly Considering Suing Disney for ‘Cruella’

According to Johansson, Disney breached her contract for Black Widow, causing her to lose millions of dollars. Now, Emma Stone, 32, is reportedly considering suing Disney over her contract with Cruella.

Because of COVID-19, Cruella and Black Widow were available in theaters and on Disney+ for $29.99. According to ScreenrantBlack Widow saw a significant loss, despite doing well on its opening weekend. Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney, claiming the hybrid release was a breach of her contract, causing her to lose millions of dollars since the actress was only paid for box office performance and not Premier Access. Disney fired back at Johansson in a statement.

“The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date,” Disney stated in the press release.

News broke out when Scarlett Johansson announced she was suing Disney, inspiring Emma Stone. According to Johansson, Disney breached her contract and caused her to lose millions of dollars. She was only paid from box office performance and not Premier Access. This made Stone, 32, think about her contract with Cruella.

Former The Hollywood Reporter editor Matt Belloni revealed Stone is now reportedly “weighing her options” about a potential lawsuit in his newsletter. Her contract is similar to Johansson’s, getting paid exclusively for box office performance. Many believed that the hybrid release could have affected its overall numbers.


While Cruella was a huge box office success, many fans have expressed their support for Johansson, Stone, and even Emily Blunt to take action. Currently, the Cruella sequel is in the works but can be put on pause if Stone decides to sue.
