USA Women Gymnastics Team Wins Silver in the Olympic Games
USA’s Women Gymnastics team has become silver medalists in the latest news and updates featuring the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games leaving Russia to take home the gold.
The ladies competed in the women’s team finals on day four of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at Ariake Gymnastics Centre. People all around the world watched in suspense as the women competed in vault and floor routines. It seemed that the team was struggling as missteps in the qualifying round deducted points and left the team aiming for a comeback.
All eyes were on Simone Biles, the gymnast superstar, to lead the team to redemption. It seemed that the world has stopped after news of Biles’s shocking withdrawal from the competition made headlines. According to USA Today, Biles “decided to remove herself from the lineup after an uncharacteristic misstep on vault.” In the past, the 6-time Olympic medalist has shown the world her true talent and skill with the level of difficulty going into each rotation.
However, even the greatest and all-time superstars make mistakes. Biles cited mental health reasons being the determining factor in her decision to withdraw from the competition. Biles told reporters, “After the performance that I did, I didn’t want to go into any of the other events second-guessing myself, so I thought it was better if I took a step back and let these girls go out there and do the job and they did just that.”
When asked how she was feeling, Biles told NBC reporters that, “Physically, I feel good. I’m in shape. Emotionally, it varies on time and moment. Coming to the Olympics and being a head star isn’t an easy feat.” Biles hinted at the pressure and mental toll the Games took out of her during an Instagram post.
While stepping down, Biles showed true sportsmanship by cheering on her team and even had some special words to say about them in an Instagram post.
As of now, Team USA has won nine gold medals in various sports and categories. The women’s gymnastic team is the latest to add a silver medal to the list of medals won by the country.
