On Wednesday, August 11, Ava DuVernay announced she is planning to create a new show for LeVar Burton to host. This news comes after Burton was rejected to host long-term for the popular television show Jeopardy!

Ava DuVernay tweeted, “Me trying to create a show right in this moment for @levarburton to host and make an international hit.” The filmmaker tweeted with a gif of Dan Levy anxiously looking around. While DuVernay’s tweet only indicated that she was in the early stages of creating the potential show, LeVar Burton seemed to be in agreement with Duvernay’s plans. Burton retweeted and replied to the filmmaker’s tweet with, “Check your DM’s!”

The interaction between DuVernay and Burton left fans excited for what show could possibly be created in the future.

Despite experiencing a heartbreaking rejection to be Jeopardy!‘s next host, Burton expressed that he has won regardless of the results. Burton tweeted, “I have said many times over these past weeks that no matter the outcome, I’ve won. The outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and fans alike has been incredible! If love is the ultimate blessing and I believe that it is, I am truly blessed beyond measure.”

Ava DuVernay is an American writer, director, producer, and film distributor. The 48-year-old award-winning director is most known for directing Selma, A Wrinkle in Time, and 13th.

LeVar Burton is an American actor, director, and children’s television host. The 64-year-old host has won Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award for his role hosting the PBS series Reading Rainbow.
