Serena Williams Announces Her New Decision to Withdraw from Wimbledon Opening
Serena Williams and her coach announced that she would be pulling out of the 2021 Opening.
1995 was the year Williams went professional in the sport of tennis. She won the U.S. Open in 1999 and went to the Olympics in 2000 in Sydney, Australia, where she won a gold medal. Williams then won the French Open, U.S. Open, and Wimbledon in 2002.
Williams continued to win the Australian Open in 2003 and 2005; quickly after that, in 2008, she went to the Olympics in Beijing, winning another gold medal. Year after year, she accomplished more and more in her journey while dealing with health issues.
As her health issues took a toll on her ability to compete, her coach quickly decided to pull her out from Wimbledon due to a torn hamstring. As much as Williams made her best effort to recover, her coach Patrick Mouratohlou, decided it was her best decision.
Since she had to pull out from Wimbledon, @serenawilliams has been fully committed to her recovery and we’ve done everything we could so that she could compete at the @usopen.
But her body isn’t ready.
It is heartbreaking, but this is the only possible decision.

Quickly after Mouratohlou’s announcement on social media on August 25, Williams posted on Instagram her reasoning as to why pulling out was the best decision for her and thanking her fans for all of the support in her years of playing on the court.
Williams will be known for being fierce on the court with winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles and a record in the professional era.
