The latest action-packed film joining the MCU lineup, Spider-Man: No Way Home, has yet to be released and it’s already breaking records across the board. Marvel released the official trailer on August 23 and within the first 24 hours, it set a new all-time record for the most global views at a whopping 355.5 million.

This beats out the record set by Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame trailer, which racked up 289 million views within its first day of release back in December 2018.  This has the trailer surpassing the Avengers flick by nearly 23%, setting the stage for it to be a smash-hit in the box office upon its release.

The trailer has also set a record of the most-ever mentions on social media within the first 24 hours, according to Sony Pictures, coming in with 4.5 mentions worldwide. Domestically, No Way Home garnered 2.91 mentions in that time frame, nearly doubling Endgame’s 1.94 mentions. Such a positive reaction from fans prompted the official Spider-Man: No Way Home Twitter account to respond to all the hype.

The trailer itself sets the scene to pick up right where Spider-Man: Far From Home left off. It begins with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker struggling to cope with the tension and chaos that follows him after his identity has been revealed by Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck/Mysterio. Hoping to undo this event and set his life back to normal, Parker seeks out Doctor Strange. But the consequences of tangling with time quickly become apparent, plunging Parker and Strange alike into the multiverse, complete with characters and villains alike reappearing from past Spider-Man franchises.

Among these stars are heavily rumored to be previous iterations of Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, and confirmed villains like Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock. Through the trailer, fans have also spotted signs of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Jamie Foxx’s Electro, though according to Tom Holland via Instagram live, this is all “just the tip of the iceberg.”

With all of these records being broken by just the trailer alone, Spider-Man: No Way Home might just be Marvel and Sony’s most anticipated release yet. Back in 2019, the second trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home didn’t receive even half the number of views within its first 24 hours, proving just how much Holland’s Spider-Man has skyrocketed in popularity over the years.

With a scheduled release of December 17 this year, it will likely become one of the largest productions in the history of the MCU. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch the official trailer above.
