Instagram

Vampire Academy officially has its cast ensembled. On Monday, the list of ten characters was announced. The cast consists of Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat), Daniela Nieves (Every Witch Way) Kieron Moore (Sex Education), André De Kim (Degrassi) J. August Richards (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Anita-Joy Uwajeh (Twelfth Night),  Mia McKenna-Bruce (Get Even), Rhian Blundell (Nobody Girl), Jonetta Kaiser (Breakwater), and Andrew Liner (Grown-ish).

News of the show broke in late May. Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre will be serving as the show’s director. The show will air on Peacock, with all ten episodes of the first season available.

Vampire Academy is based on the hit book series by Richelle Mead. The show takes place at St. Vladimir’s, a school isolated in the depths of Montana. In this world, there are three different types of vampires: Moroi, Strigoi, and Dhampirs. In addition, the Moroi are vampire royalty who have Dhampirs as their guardians. Furthermore, the books center around seventeen-year-old Rosemarie “Rose” Hathaway, a Dhampir, and her journey at St. Vladimir’s. She is training to become her best friend, Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir’s guardian. Rose is your average teenager, learning how to fight strigoi while falling for her instructor, Dimitri Belikov.

Stringer will be playing the sharp-tongued, fierce, rebellious Dhampir, Rose Hathaway. Nieves will be playing the wise, intelligent, kind-hearted Princess Lissa Dragomir. Kieron Moore will be playing the strong, Russian, disciplined, guardian, Dimitri Belikov. Liner will be playing the charming, likable, popular Mason Ashford. Richards will be playing Victor Dashkov, a Moroi nobleman who is involved with Moroi politics. Dae Kim will be playing the academy’s outcast, Christian Ozera. Uwajeh will be playing Tatiana Vogel, a Moroi vampire who is dominating in the royal court and Moroi politics. McKenna-Bruce will be playing Mia Karp, a selfish, cunning non-royal student who is hellbent on climbing the social ladder. Blundell will be playing Meredith, a Dhampir guardian-in-training-student who doesn’t take crap from anyone.

Fans hope that the show is much better than the movie. In 2014, the film version of Vampire Academy was released but failed to meet the audience’s expectations. No official release date has been announced. In the meantime, fans can watch the Vampire Academy film on Netflix and can order the books on Amazon.
