Ariana Grande Details New R.E.M. Beauty Drop
Ariana Grande graces the latest cover of Allure, revealing that she is exploring new forms of storytelling. Grande reveals big plans for r.e.m. beauty, which is launching this fall.
Ariana Grande, the former Nickelodeon star and pop sensation, is honored to be on the cover of Allure for its twenty-fifth Annual “Best of Beauty” Cover. Grande reveals in the interview that she has been quietly working on her makeup brand, r.e.m. beauty, for two years, beginning while she was on tour promoting Sweetener, her fourth studio album. Sweetener is extremely important to Grande, as the record won a Grammy for “Best Pop Vocal Album,” making it her first Grammy Award. In addition to Sweetener‘s successful tour, “r.e.m.” serves as track 4 on the record, which has inspired her brand’s name.

Grande reveals to Allure that r.e.m. beauty will have a series of “drops,” first focusing on the eyes. The “Positions” singer says of the first drop, “The eyes are our main gateways to our dreams, our emotions, our everything.” She elaborates, “They’re our main storytellers and sources of communication. I feel like you can emote more with your eyes than you can articulate sometimes.” Grande’s eye-popping eye products include fine-point eyeliner markers, liquid eye shadows, glitter toppers, and mascara. Apart from the eye makeup, Grande then reveals she has various lipsticks and lip glosses as well.

In the interview, Grande places herself as a cross between Nancy Sinatra and Barbarella, the astronaut from the 1968 sci-fi film when it comes to pop references. She adds, “I’ve always sort of gravitated towards the ‘50s and ‘60s and ‘70s for glamour references. I’ve always pictured myself in a different time period. I’ve always wanted to wear that makeup, wear that hair, wear those outfits, be those performers.”
