Billie Eilish Accepts ‘Video for Good’ Award With a Powerful Message for Young Women
Billie Eilish walked away with a Moon Person last night at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she won ‘Video for Good’ for her song “Your Power.” Eilish was presented the award by one of her many idols, Avril Lavigne.
The ‘Video for Good” award is an extremely important category, as the artist uses their voice and music to highlight the dangerous problems that unfortunately occur in society today. Eilish was nominated alongside Demi Lovato (“Dancing With The Devil), H.E.R. (“Fight For You”), Kane Brown (“Worldwide Beautiful), Lil Nas X (MONTERO “Call Me By Your Name”), and Pharrell Williams ft. Jay Z (“Entrepreneur”).
“Your Power” appears as Track 12 on Eilish’s second studio album, Happier Than Ever. The talented singer graced the cover of British Vogue, where she also did an interview detailing what would be her new music, power dynamics, the internet, and more. In her exclusive interview with Vogue, she shared what “Your Power” is about and what it means to her.
She reveals in the interview, “It’s an open letter to people who take advantage – mostly men. I would like people to listen to me. And not just try to figure out who I’m talking about, because it’s not about that. It’s really not at all about one person. You might think, ‘It’s because she’s in the music industry’ – no, dude. It’s everywhere. I don’t know one girl or woman who hasn’t had a weird experience, or a really bad experience. And men, too – young boys are taken advantage of constantly.”
