HBO Max Renews ‘Gossip Girl’ for a Second Season
HBO Max has renewed Gossip Girl for a second season following high ratings and an already strong fan following just a few episodes in. When the reboot premiered in early July, it drew in over half a million viewers – a record for the platform. But Gossip Girl isn’t stopping there.

Taking place almost a decade after the original Gossip Girl ended, the reboot is truly a tale of a new generation. It follows a group of New York City elites as they navigate school, family, and relationships.
Only this time, viewers know who gossip girl is, making way for even more drama to occur. But some things remain the same, like Kristen Bell acting as the voice of gossip girl.

Aside from Bell, Gossip Girl hails a strong cast of newcomers. Jordan Alexander stars as Julien Calloway, an influencer and NYC “it girl.” As far as a second season goes, Alexander spoke with Elle about what that means for her character.
“I would say that I want for her just to tap more into her authenticity and not edit herself so much. I think that would probably be good for her and everybody else too,” Alexander told Elle in an interview.
Julien’s half-sister, Zoya Loft, is played by Whitney Peak. Additional cast members include Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Jason Gotay, Emily Alyn, and more. Together, they portray a changing landscape of living in NYC.

Little else is known about what a second season might bring. But showrunner Joshua Safran told Elle that he doesn’t “want to wrap it up” quite yet. Safran also shared his hopes not just for a second season, but even a third.
Gossip Girl is currently on hiatus with the second half of season one expected to hit HBO Max this November. For now, the first six episodes can be streamed on HBO Max.
