Pop-maven Rihanna took to Instagram this morning to announce that she will be hosting the highly-anticipated official Met Gala after-party this year. “If you planning a Met Ball after-party . . . don’t.” Wrote the star, teasing news of the festivities just days before the event is set to take place on September 13.

Rihanna, who has hosted at least four previous after parties to date starting back in 2014, has garnered guests among the likes of Zoë Kravitz, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, and Solange Knowles.

The singer has never been shy about taking center stage at the Gala, and her show-stopping looks often attract attention from fans and critics alike. The “Heavenly Bodies” concept that set the stage in 2018, Rihanna’s last appearance at the Met, saw the star in a decadent Margiela beaded mini-dress and cape reminiscent of a glamourous Pope.

This year’s theme is “American Fashion“, and will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the museum’s Costume Institute. The theme also hopes to explore the modern transitions of American fashion and the kind of “Renaissance” that it’s undergoing. “American Independence” is the official dress code of the evening, which leaves much open to interpretation. Attendees may choose to stick with the more traditional red, white, and blue motif, or take a more abstract or political approach to the theme.

This years Met Gala also marks the first in-person happening since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The line-up of co-chairs is impressive, to say the least, inducting Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka into the powerhouse behind the event.

As an additional ‘welcome back’ treat, fans can now watch live footage of the red carpet for the first time ever, courtesy of Vogue.

Although the Met Gala may be open to all this year so to speak, the illustrious after-party still holds the condition of being a ‘private event,’ but fans can definitely expect to see moments from the night shared via social media from what is sure to be a star-studded list of attendees. Keep an eye on Rihanna’s Instagram for updates.

The event will be hosted by actress and recording artist Keke Palmer as well as writer and comedian Ilana Glazer, both of whom guarantee to bring a fresh and energetic attitude to any stage they grace. The live stream will begin at 5:30 p.m EST on September 13.
