Cameron Boyce’s Parents Open Up About Their Son’s Final Project ‘Runt’
Victor and Libby Boyce, the parents of beloved Disney star Cameron Boyce, got candid about their conflicting feelings towards their son’s final film, Runt.
The family opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the film and how his character differs from his most notable roles like Luke Ross and Carlos De Vil.
Victor, Boyce’s father, said, “Runt is a mixed blessing for us…When we see Cameron animated and moving around in these projects, it’s hard to watch, but we’re also proud at the same time. Overall we’re glad to see it finally being released. He worked really hard on it, and he was very committed in his acting in this role and trying to show a different side to his acting chops.”
In this film, Boyce’s character is a student who turns violent after a constant cycle of bullying and a lack of parental guidance. His parents went on to discuss how Boyce went full-on method to be successful in this role.

At the start of filming, Boyce warned his family that he would distance himself from them. His mom said that because she and Cameron were so tight, there had to be a shift in their relationship for him to succeed in this role. Victor added, “He really immersed himself in this character to the point where I had never seen before… He put it all out there.”
Although his parents are proud of his success, they admitted that it’s a challenging film for them to watch. They want to do everything possible to make sure that this film does not go unnoticed. Libby said that Cameron worked extremely hard on this project, put in hours of research, and worked until 4:00 am, thus their high hopes for the success of this film.

Aside from the film, Boyce’s parents work to keep his legacy alive with The Cameron Boyce Foundation. This non-profit organization aims to reduce gun violence and find the cure for epilepsy. Earlier this year, Cameron’s sister, Maya Boyce, teamed up with Tower 28 Beauty and released a limited-edition lip gloss in his honor. All of the proceeds made from the beauty product would go towards the Cameron Boyce Taking Flight Award.
Cameron Boyce’s final film, Runt, will be available in select theatres on October 1 and streaming on October 19. Fans can watch the trailer below.
