Lily-Rose Depp To Star Alongside The Weeknd in New Series ‘The Idol’
Lily-Rose Depp has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming HBO drama series, The Idol, starring opposite The Weeknd. The Idol is co-created by the “Save Your Tears” singer and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson.
Abel Tesfaye, known to the world as The Weeknd, announced his involvement with a high-profile HBO series back in June. The singer took to Instagram to share the Variety headline, “The Weeknd to Star in, Co-Write Cult Series in the Works at HBO With Euphoria Creator.” In the three months that have elapsed, fans have found out more information.
According to Deadline, “The Idol follows a female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.” Deadline elaborates that although “HBO is not commenting, Depp and Tesfaye are believed to be playing the singer and club owner, respectively.”

The Idol has various names attached to the series. Apart from Levinson, who will executive produce and write along with The Weeknd, Reza Fahim, Levinson’s producing partner, is also attached. Ashley Levinson and Kevin Turen of Little Lamb and Aaron L. Gilbert of Bron Studios will also be producing. Joseph Epstein, screenwriter of Health and Wellness, will executive-produce and write with Levinson and Tesfaye. The Idol has also snagged Mary Laws, who has written for the HBO hit dramedy, Succession. Laws will executive produce and write. Last but not least, Wassim “SAL” Slaiby and La Mar C. Taylor co-executive produce.
