Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga are bringing William Shakespeare’s iconic play, Macbeth, to life on Broadway. Craig and Negga are playing the complicated husband and wife duo.

Craig, who has been busy saying his goodbyes to the iconic character of James Bond in his latest film, No Time To Die, has not appeared on Broadway since 2013. He starred in Betrayal and is back to return as Lord Macbeth. Craig certainly is no stranger to Shakespeare’s plays, having appeared in Othello opposite David Oyelowo. In that adaptation, the No Time To Die actor gave fans a chilling performance as Iago, with Oyelowo giving a commanding performance as the titular character.

Ruth Negga, the Passing actress, has been cast as Lady Macbeth, Lord Macbeth’s wife. Although Negga will be making her Broadway debut, she also has experience working on Shakespeare’s plays. Negga starred in a New York-based production of Hamlet.

Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth, is a tale of cunning nature, madness, and murder. Lord and Lady Macbeth do the unthinkable and are left with unbearable guilt. According to the press release, this adaptation promises the “thrilling new production will capture the passion and ferocity of Shakespeare’s most haunting text like never before.” As Craig and Negga are seasoned actors when it comes to Shakespeare, this will undoubtedly be an exciting ride.

Sam Gold, who will be directing Craig and Negga in Macbeth, shared his thoughts on this pairing: “I am beyond thrilled to be participating in this historic season as theatre re-emerges, and to be working with two such masterful actors on one of dramatic literature’s most challenging and epic dramas. I can’t wait to get started!”

Barbara Broccoli will be producing Macbeth. She adds, "Daniel is not only a great film actor but a magnificent theatre actor as well. I am thrilled that he will be supporting the return of Broadway playing this iconic role with the exquisitely talented Ruth Negga making her Broadway debut and under the expert direction of Sam Gold."
