Ashanti Announces New Plans to Re-Record Debut Album
Ashanti will be returning to the studio soon. After nineteen years since her initial debut album release, the R&B singer recently received legal control over her music, better known as her masters.
On September 28, Ashanti sat down during an interview with Tamron Hall, where she discussed various topics. She gave recognition to her legal team and how she stepped into the industry at fourteen years old. “It’s so surreal. I have an amazing legal team, and I got my first record deal when I was 14 years old, so understanding and seeing how things have changed so much from then to now and conceptually understanding what you’re signing is so imperative; it’s so important nowadays. The fact that I’ll be able to re-record my first album and put everything together.”

The singer went on to explain her early beginnings with writing. She said, “I wanted to feel like I had my own apartment. So I used to be downstairs in my own section, and I would put on the Cartoon Network on mute, and I would just write. It allowed me to kind of get into my zone.”

From there, the “Rain on Me” singer would go on to record number 1 hits. Her debut self-titled album Ashanti was released in 2002 and hit number 1 on the Billboard 200. The album spent 55 weeks there, along with her other songs, “Happy,” “Baby,” and “Foolish.” The following year, her album went triple platinum and won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Album.

Ashanti called it “humbling” when asked about having the freedom to create her music.
“It’s such a blessing, you know, the fact that we are still here, we’re living through a pandemic, and these blessings are still coming in, it just makes me so happy again, so humbled, and such a believer. There’s a higher power, and I think that just being as a person and praying and putting your heart into things, you get that energy back, and I think that’s so important. So, I’m just really, really happy.”
Ashanti’s remake album release date is unknown. While fans wait for more details, her music can be streamed on all music streaming platforms.
