All You Need to Know About Broadway’s Revival of ‘Funny Girl’
58 years after its initial run, Broadway brings smash-hit Funny Girl back to the stage with a powerhouse cast. Debuting on Broadway in Hello, Dolly! as Minnie Fay, the show’s star is none other than Beanie Feldstein (known from Booksmart and Lady Bird). Fans are excited about Feldstein leading the return of this iconic musical, but no one seems as thrilled as the actress herself.
“This is literally the first dream that I ever had; I mean it.” Feldstein reveals, calling the whole experience “surreal.” Having asked for a Funny Girl-themed birthday party when she was just three years old, it’s not a stretch to say the actress has spent her whole life preparing for the role of Fanny Brice. “We haven’t started rehearsals yet, but I am profoundly excited.”
The musical is directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Spring Awakening) and includes an all-star cast beyond Feldstein herself. Recently, it has been confirmed that Tony Award nominee Ramin Karimloo (best known from Les Misérables and Anastasia) will be portraying Nick Arnstein, five-time Emmy Award winner Jane Lynch (best known from Glee and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will be portraying Mrs. Rosie Brice, and Jeff Award-winner Jared Grimes (best known from A Soldier’s Play and After Midnight) will be portraying Eddie Ryan.
With this star-studded cast, there’s something for everyone.

Funny Girl tells the story of Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who pursued her dream of being on stage despite everyone telling her she’d never be a star. The bittersweet comedy has its opening night on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre.
In a glimpse of what’s to come for the musical, we see Feldstein struts across the stage in all of Brice’s haughty glamour, still confident through all the negativity from those who said she would never make it. She then turns to the camera and delivers the show’s famous line, “Hello, gorgeous.” Check out the official trailer above.
