Paramount+ has officially ordered the Grease: Rise of The Pink Ladies prequel series and the nostalgia can’t get any better than this. The upcoming spinoff series will be based on the original 1978 classic but set four years before the T-Birds were the coolest of Rydell High.

Like a wop-bop-ba-lu-bop and wop bam boom! Grease is making a comeback with a fresh new cast and storyline orchestrated by an impressive team of creative tycoons.

Written and created by Anabel Oakes who will serve as showrunner of the series, the prequel will feature new music written and executive produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter Justin Tranter. Director Alethea Jones is also joining the team, along with RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s Jamal Sims, who will choreograph the series’ new catchy musical numbers.

According to the show’s logline, Grease: Rise of The Pink Ladies will tell a story “before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up, outcast girls dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.”

The original classic starred John Travolta (Danny), Olivia Newton-John (Sandy), Stockard Channing (Rizzo), Didi Conn (Frenchie), Dinah Manoff (Marty), and Jamie Donnelly (Jan). The new cast coming on board has not been announced yet as casting for the new gang is currently in the works.

The release date for Grease: Rise of The Pink Ladies has not been announced just yet either. However, fans can stream the original on Paramount+ in the meantime.
