Halsey Delivers Two New Epic Performances on ‘SNL’
Halsey made their grand entrance back to the iconic SNL stage as a musical guest on October 9. The singer performed “I am not a woman, I’m a god” and “Darling” off their critically acclaimed fourth studio album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.
Halsey appeared on SNL for the fifth time on October 9, marking one of their first major performances since giving birth. The singer first performed “I am not a woman, I’m a god” in a sleek black suit. Fans loved the futuristic sci-fi vibe along with the singer’s commanding stage presence.
Although Halsey was proud of their performances, the singer felt “weird” when people were talking about their body. The singer took to Instagram to elaborate on these feelings by writing:
“My body has felt like a stranger’s for a long time. I uphold myself to honesty to the point of oversharing sometimes, but this feels important. The first picture on this slide is days after my baby was already born. A lot of people don’t know that you still look pregnant for a while after. It is still changing, and I am letting it. I have no interest in working out right now. I’m too tired and too busy playing with my darling son. With that being said, the body behind all those compliments the other night was wearing a custom-tailored outfit and lighted perfectly after much testing, so I could feel good and do my job. I do not want to feed the illusion that you’re meant to feel and look “great” immediately postpartum.”
The singer’s second performance of “Darling” featured a special guest: Lindsey Buckingham. The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist contributed to the song vocally and through his guitar playing. The performance was nothing short of magical and soothing for the listener. Halsey looked radiant in their witchy outfit and stunned with crooning vocals.
For those left wondering how Halsey had been able to craft such different performances, the singer writes that the performance of “I am not a woman, I’m a god” is meant to be powerful; It is “cold, desolate, and intricate.” The latter performance of “Darling” is “love, lush, organic, and dreamy.”
The first performance is power, cold desolate and intricate: me before. The second is love, lush and organic and dreamy: me after. And how wonderfully they both co-exist! https://t.co/LhdrbwQFSx
