Willow Smith Releases New ‘GROW’ Music Video With Avril Lavigne
Willow Smith has shared the music video to “G R O W,” her collaboration with Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker. The track appears on the singer’s latest studio album, Lately I Feel Everything.
Willow Smith has taken the world by storm with her music. The singer’s fourth studio album has cemented Smith as a growing pop-punk icon. Lately I Feel Everything features collaborations with pop-punk rock alternative icon Avril Lavigne and Blink-182 drummer, Travis Barker. The singer expressed her love and admiration for both musicians, calling it “a special moment.”
The “Lipstick” singer tells Alternative Press about the joy of getting to work with a legend like Lavigne. She reveals, “She’s just amazing. She knows this genre like the back of her hand. It was just effortless watching her come up with her verse. Just the tone of her voice and how she knows exactly the right tone that’s going to work with the song.”
In addition to her work with Lavigne, Smith spoke to Zane Lowe in an exclusive interview, emphasizing the point that Barker is so much more than a drummer of a rock band. She reveals, “Being in the studio with him really showed me how multi-dimensional his artistry really is … He literally heard the song once and played it. He was like, ‘Oh, that’s perfect,’ one day and played it perfectly once.” In this interview, Smith is referring to her smash punk-rock tune, “Transparent Soul.”
Smith began teasing her duet with Lavigne by posting a picture on October 15 that read, “<KEEP YOUR THIRD EYE PEELED>” followed by black and white heart emojis. On October 18, the singer would share a stunning selfie confirming that the music video would be available on October 19. The selfie features one of the vibrant outfits worn in the video.
“G R O W” is a powerful song focusing on the importance of continuing to better oneself and heal as people. Smith and Lavigne belt out, “I been putting work in / Healing myself / Still got room to grow.” The music video transports viewers back to the iconic 90s and early 2000s pop-punk aesthetic, and fans are loving such a revival.
