Jesse Jo Stark began teasing “Cry On Me” on October 14. The “Lady Bird” singer took to all her social media platforms sharing a close-up photo that read, “another rip yer guts out kinda love song x.” Fans of the singer know this to be true of her music; she is a masterful storyteller. Stark is effortless when it comes to creating her own melancholic world where there is so much pain and anguish behind the narrative. This is the magic of songwriting.

On October 15, the singer revealed her single will be called “Cry On Me.” She is seen wearing dark and heavy eye makeup and shiny black boots. On the eve of “Cry On Me” (October 20), the singer posted a stunning photo that features song lyrics to the single, giving fans another small glimpse of what to expect.

Stark spoke in an interview with Alternative Press about the meaning behind “Cry On Me.” She tells the magazine, “I wanted to approach this one like an Alfred Hitchcock movie where your attention gets pulled along without noticing so you hopefully get lost in the story. I’m telling a story about two lovers being ripped apart by time. Lyrically I wanted to show little vignettes that feel like an eternal promise.” Her voice is spellbinding, and fans can really feel the emotion in Stark’s voice. What lies behind the tragedy of heartbreak is the intense love that was not reciprocated.
