Netflix has launched an assemblage of critically acclaimed Palestinian films, featuring 32 dramas and documentaries that underscore Palestinian filmmaking. Palestinian people are thrilled to see their stories represented on the streaming platform, especially in light of the long-lasting strife with Israel that has killed thousands of innocent Palestinians.

The collection, “Palestinian Stories,” is not only progressive in its illumination of the Palestinian narrative, but it also includes high-quality, renowned movies. Annemarie Jacir’s Like Twenty Impossibles, is included in the line-up, which was the first Arab short film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as an Oscars finalist in the year of its release. Another Cannes Film Festival veteran in the collection is Elia Sumeilan’s award-winning Divine Intervention.

A standout documentary that the platform is now streaming is Mai Masri’s 2001 project, Frontiers of Dreams and Fears. The film tells the story of two Palestinian best friends, 13-year-old Mona and 14-year-old Manar, who reside in separate refugee camps. The film follows the two young girls as they communicate with letters, unable to meet due to regulations at the border until they finally decide to risk it all and see one another at the border, of South Lebanon.

Stefano Savona’s Samouni Road speaks to themes of hope in despair as it follows a family preparing for a wedding outside of Gaza City while the struggles of war affect their small town.

While learning more about the experiences of Palestinian people, viewers also seem to genuinely be enjoying the films, some even sharing clips of what they see to be crucial and memorable scenes.
