Yebba Shares New Music Video to ‘Far Away’ ft. A$AP Rocky
Abigail Elizabeth Smith, known by her stage name, Yebba, has shared the psychedelic animated music video to “Far Away,” her collaboration with A$AP Rocky. The track appears on her debut album, Dawn. Warning: This article mentions and discusses suicide.
On September 10, Yebba released her highly anticipated studio album, Dawn. Her record pays homage to her late mother, Dawn, who tragically died by suicide in 2016. The record’s name of ‘Dawn’ also symbolizes the rise of a new day. Yebba spoke in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar about her debut album. She reveals, “I feel like I’ve completed something and tried to honor (my mom) in the best way I knew how, and now I can be 26. And in spite of all the selfishness, I feel like God has given me more imagination, different pathways of melody, just more interesting symbolism than before. And just a lot less pressure. I’m just excited to keep making music.”
Dawn is a unique album for many reasons. Yebba blends various genres throughout the 12-track record, ranging from blues, hip-hop, folk, R&B, and pop. The result is nothing short of impressive. Dawn had been produced by Mark Ronson, the legendary producer who has worked with artists such as Adele and the late Amy Winehouse. Ronson, who worked with Yebba for about four years, recalls in an interview on the Shangri-La docuseries how talented the singer is. He reveals, “I’ve never worked with an artist before that has had something happen to them that is so momentous, and this is the record that they’re dealing with it.”
On November 3, roughly two months after Dawn was released out into the world, the “Boomerang” singer shared the “Far Away” music video. The hip-hop, R&B track is a colorful, animated trip for viewers. Fans are loving the vibe between Yebba and A$AP Rocky.
