Gal Gadot Cast as Evil Queen in New Disney ‘Snow White’ Remake
Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot is in final negotiations to play the iconic Evil Queen in the upcoming Snow White remake. Marc Webb will serve as director and Marc Platt will be producing the adaptation. The production is set to begin in 2022.
The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cartoon, based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, had been released in 1938. Snow White was the animated feature that started it all for Disney, catapulting the studio’s success. The live-action remake will “expand upon the story and music from the original.” The adaptation will feature new music from legendary duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar and Tony award-winning pair behind hit films such as The Greatest Showman and La La Land.
Gadot, although busy with press for her latest Netflix film, Red Notice starring opposite Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, spoke with PEOPLE about tackling the wicked role. She reveals, “I can’t say much other than the fact that I’m so excited and I cannot wait to get into the shoes and the crown of the Evil Queen.” The actress has officially begun teasing this new role, and fans are excited.
Disney may have found its Evil Queen, but what about the titular character — Snow White? Director Marc Webb found his Snow White back in June. Rachel Zegler, most notably known for starring in Steven Spielberg’s retelling of West Side Story, is set to portray the legendary princess. Webb reveals of Zegler, “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”
Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler will be an exciting pairing for retelling such a historic Disney feature. We cannot wait to see this live-action remake come to life. Be sure to rewatch the original animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to relive the magic of this classic.
