Zendaya Honored as the Youngest Recipient of CFDA Fashion Icon Award

On Wednesday, November 10, Zendaya received the 2021 CFDA Fashion Icon Award. She is the youngest recipient of the award to date.

Zendaya is known for her iconic carpet looks. The CFDA Awards were no exception, as she stunned in a custom red ensemble designed by Vera Wang. Zendaya wore a red-hot two piece outfit, with a cropped bandeau tube-top and a peplum maxi skirt. In addition to the stunning outfit, Zendaya accessorized with over 60 carats of Bulgari jewelry. This is a trend as of late, she was named an ambassador for the luxury brand back in 2020.

Zendaya’s long time stylist and image architect, Law Roach accompanied her to the event. Roach shared to Women’s Wear Daily that “It was important to wear an American designer, and we wanted to go with someone we had a relationship with.” Roach added that “She’s worn Vera in the past, and Vera is incredible.”

At The CFDA Awards, Zendaya was honored with the Fashion Icon Award. Past winners of the award include Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell, and Rihanna, to name a few. According to CFDA CEO Steven Kolb, Zendaya “has made such a tremendous impact on style, and she’s such a fan. She may be young, but she is an icon.”

The award was presented to Zendaya by Iman. Before reading her acceptance speech, Zendaya expressed her excitement and awe for Iman, thanking her for being there, for who she is, and continues to be. The 25-year-old actress started her speech by saying “It’s such an honor to be here tonight, on this stage, accepting this award that as been received by some of the most awe-inspiring, indelible forces that have undoubtedly changed the fashion game forever and I hope to do a fraction of what they all have done.”

Zendaya thanked the CFDA for the “beautiful moment” that she is “incredibly grateful for.” She also thanked Vera Wang, and most importantly the designers, staff, and supporters that continued throughout the fashion industry in the midst of the global pandemic. She also refers to Law Roach as her “fashion soulmate, historian, and constant inspiration” and credits him for “pushing her” to see “all of herself.”

On Instagram, Zendaya posted a photo of herself, writing in the caption that “Last night was an absolute dream come true, thank you to the @cfda, this moment meant the world to @luxurylaw and I” with a heart emoji.

Spider-Man co-star, Tom Holland, took to Instagram to share his support. Holland shared a photo from the event, saying “Naaa stop it.” With a heart-eyes emoji, adding “An incredible achievement for the most incredible person. Congrats @zendaya and @luxurylaw you guys deserve every bit of this.”

Zendaya’s latest film, DUNE, is in theatres now. Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to be released on December 17.
