New ‘Harry Potter’ Reunion Special Will Take Place Without J.K Rowling
A new Harry Potter reunion is on the horizon. Cast members, such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, will be reuniting for a 20-year anniversary special for Harry Potter on HBO Max. However, the author who created the magical world of Hogwarts, J.K. Rowling, will not be attending the reunion. The reason behind Rowling’s absence hasn’t been announced.
The author sparked anger in the transgender community. Back in 2020, Rowling was critical of the term ‘menstruating people.’ In her opinion, she believed that the term diminished women, which she expressed via Twitter.
“I’m sure there used to be a word for these people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” the author tweeted.

She further explained her views on biological sex.
“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.”

I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.

Rowling clarified that she does believe in trans rights but doesn’t believe in diminishing women and biological sex. The British author even returned her Human Rights Award from the Kennedy family due to the controversy. Cast members spoke out against Rowling, particularly the leading trio: Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint. Radcliffe published an essay to The Trevor Project, stating that “transgender women are women.”

However, Rowling will make an appearance with footage of her from the past. Director and filmmaker of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Chris Columbus will be attending. Other cast members throughout the series include Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and Ian Hart. The special will “tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations.”
