Infamous bath bomb and soap company Lush Cosmetics calls it quits for their social media platforms, claiming they ensure a better environment for their customers.

With Black Friday coming up this week and a slew of Christmas shopping anticipated, Lush says they will remain off social media until media platforms reform their negative impact on consumers’ mental health. This is a surprising turn of events as this week is prime time for many companies to bombard feeds with ads to promote their sales.

The cruelty-free and organic brand is known to be an activist on social media when it comes to bringing awareness for Black Lives Matter, the importance of sustainability, and the impact of Global Warming. However, they are turning over a new leaf as they leave their social media presence behind in an effort to live up to their values.

Chief digital officer and product creator of Lush, Jack Constantine, comments, “As an inventor of bath bombs, I pour all my efforts into creating products that help people switch off, relax and pay attention to their wellbeing. Social media platforms have become the antithesis of this aim, with algorithms designed to keep people scrolling and stop them from switching off and relaxing.”

Lush aims to make this bold decision a political stance against the injustices of social media platforms and their inactivity to make their platforms better. This is not the first time Lush has attempted to leave the social media space, and in fact, Lush accounts in the United Kingdom tried to fight against the algorithms in 2019.

This time, Lush is staying off Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Snapchat. However, Lush decided to keep their Twitter and YouTube accounts active.
