Phoebe Bridgers Shares New Cover of Tom Waits’ ‘Day After Tomorrow’
Phoebe Bridgers is back with new music just in time for the holiday season. On November 30, the Kyoto singer shared her rendition of Tom Waits’ 2004 song, “Day After Tomorrow.”
Each year, indie hitmaker Phoebe Bridgers does her part and records new songs in hopes of benefitting charities near and dear to her heart. It’s been an ongoing tradition fans of the beloved singer look forward to, and she continues to outdo herself.
In 2020, Bridgers put out a four-track EP titled If We Make It Through December. The title is the same name as Merle Haggard’s 1973 classic song, which Bridgers covers on the EP. Another standout is her collaboration with Fiona Apple; they duet to Simon & Garfunkel’s “7 O’Clock News/Silent Night.” She finishes the EP with Christmas classics “Christmas Song” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
For those that streamed If We Make It Through December, proceeds went to the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles. On their website, the organization “strives to serve and empower women experiencing homelessness and those formerly homeless.”
After last year’s incredible success, fans were eager to know what Bridgers would reimagine next. This year, she tackled “Day After Tomorrow,” Tom Waits’ heavy closing song about the Iraq War. Bridgers delivers a solemn rendition, coming as no surprise to fans. All proceeds for the singer’s cover go to the Local Integration & Family Empowerment Division of the International Institute of Los Angeles, which supports immigrants, refugees, and low-income workers in the city.
IILA is honored to be the beneficiary of @phoebe_bridgers‘ new cover of “Day After Tomorrow” by Tom Waits. All proceeds from this song will directly support our programs and services. Thank you, Phoebe! https://t.co/ZH1cy384wm
