2021 has been a huge year for H.E.R. The talented singer-songwriter released her 21-track debut album, Back of My Mind in June, where she left audiences mindblown. Apple Music reports that Back of My Mind was a chart-topping album. Her debut was the third most-streamed R&B/Soul album on Apple Music in its first week of release by a female artist this year. Her singles “Damage” and “Come Through” spent multiple weeks on the Top 100 chart in 30 countries. In addition to this, Back of My Mind is an 8-time Grammy-nominated record, coming as no surprise to fans.

H.E.R. also penned “Fight for You” for the Motion Picture film, Judas and the Black Messiah. The “Hold On” singer received her first Oscar for Best Original Song for “Fight for You,” cementing her halfway to EGOT status.

After these accolades, the singer sat down in an exclusive interview with Zane Lowe. She reflects on her ‘Songwriter of the Year’ award, where she reveals, “I am very honored and blessed to receive this recognition. As a young Black and Filipino artist, and a woman who is on the stage giving my all, there’s no doubt that representation is important. Thank you so much, Apple Music.” H.E.R. and Lowe discussed her debut album, Back of My Mind, her creative process, and songwriting.
