Everyone’s favorite Pop-Punk Princess is back. Avril Lavigne is ready to turn one of her early 2000s staples into a film, and fans are all over it.

Avril Lavigne appeared as a guest on the iHeart Radio podcast, She Is The Voice, where she spoke to host Lisa Worden about an array of topics. The singer discussed her early career, from signing to a record label to living on a tour bus in her teens. Lavigne also brought back the nostalgia when she chatted about hits “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi.”

When Avril talked about “Sk8er Boi,” she revealed that she has big plans ahead of the iconic song’s 20th anniversary. It’s hard to believe that Lavigne has been in the industry for two decades, so she knew she had to do something special to commemorate such an occasion. She tells of her future plans, “Recently, with it being almost the 20th anniversary, a lot of people have been asking me to play [” Sk8er Boi”] on some TV shows, so it keeps getting brought back up, and people will always reference it to me. And so, I’m actually going to turn this song into a film… and take it to the next level.”

The track “Sk8er Boi” is a 2002 single from the Canadian singer. It appears on her debut album, Let Go, released in June 2002 via Arista Records. Lavigne was just 16-years-old when she wrote her hit songs. She tells those who may be unaware of the song’s message, “The skater boy is in love with the preppy girl but like she’s too cool for him but then five years from now she’s feeding the baby and she’s all alone, and she wishes she would have followed her heart and not tried to live up to society’s expectations.” This undoubtedly sounds like the perfect blockbuster film idea.

Fans stormed social media to share their thoughts on the future film.

We could not be more excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Sk8er Boi.” Fans can sink into those waves of nostalgia by streaming her debut album, Let Go, on Spotify.
