Arlo Parks Releases New Variety Special ‘Tonight With Arlo Parks’
Arlo Parks, the British singer-songwriter and poet, released her highly anticipated film, Tonight With Arlo Parks: A Variety Hour Special. The program celebrates her debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams.
At just twenty-one, Arlo Parks is quickly becoming a household name in the music industry. The artist released her 12-track debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams, in January 2021 via Transgressive Records. After the record release, Parks continued to gain the recognition that she deserves. Beginning in the UK, her hometown, the singer won the prestigious Mercury Prize, which awards the best album by a British or Irish act. She was also awarded the Deezer Breakthrough Artist Award at the GQ Man of the Year Awards. Parks had also been the recipient of two AIM awards for the UK Independent Breakthrough and the Best Independent Album.
After this well-deserved success, Parks became a Grammy-nominated artist. This news and recognition was the cherry on top for the singer this year, who is nominated for Best Alternative Album. Parks is in great company with Halsey, Japanese Breakfast, St. Vincent, and Fleet Foxes in the same category. Parks kept it short and sweet on Instagram, writing, “tears, tears, tears. thank you, thank you, thank you.”
To further celebrate Collapsed in Sunbeams, Parks released a one-hour special where she performs hit songs off the record and reads her poetry. She also conducts meaningful conversations about the creative process and the “weird year” in quarantine. From Parks’ YouTube page, the special is “a modernist, surrealist reboot of the classic 60s/70s variety show specials that used to grace our screens.”
