5 New Year’s Makeup Looks to Start 2022 With a Bang

New Year’s is the best holiday for over-the-top makeup, second to Halloween, of course. It’s the night to pull out all the stops. Whether you’re envisioning all-over glitter, a metallic lid, or a bright and bold lip, we’ve listed five NYE-approved looks to start 2022 with your best face forward.

1. Bedazzled Eyes

If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to put tiny crystals on your face, it’s your time to shine. Nikki Wolff’s bedazzled look is as achievable as it is beautiful. The best part? It’s incredibly easy. All you need is face jewels of various sizes and your reliable lash glue. Wolff accentuated the eyes with jewels, a classic wing, a touch of shimmer on the lids, and defined lashes. 2. Glitter Cut Crease

MUA Katie Jane Hughes elevated the glitter eye, an NYE favorite, with a floating cut crease. The look grabs attention from everyone in the room while only requiring a few products: a good primer, glitter, a blendable liner, and a smudging tool. To prime, Coloured Raine’s Paint Base ($11) comes in four shades and can be used for all-night wear, lid hydration, or even to cut the crease. Once the lids are tacky, take a brown liner, such as the Makeup Geek pencil in the shade ‘Rich Chocolate’ ($10.89), and create the dramatic floating crease. Smudge the inside of the liner towards the eye. Then, sharpen the wing shape with the Paint Base. Top the eye off with the glitter of your choice, and voilà! You’re ready for the New Year.

3. Metallic Finish

What better time to rock a bold lip than NYE? MUA Johnny Coronado created an edgy holiday look by pairing the bedazzled eye trend with a metallic lip. Coronado added highlighter to the center of the lips to brighten the deep plum. Lime Crime Velvetines liquid lipstick in the shade ‘Scandal‘ ($20) is a beautiful bright plum fit for all-night wear. Mix it with ‘Black Velvet‘ to create a darker shade. Then, top the lip with an iridescent highlighter, and you’re ready for the night.

Metallics are great for a statement eye too. MUA Michelle Dacillo crafted this red carpet look for Griff with face gems and a pop of silver. Combine the silver metallic powder ($10.95) and the mixing liquid from Mehron and apply to the inner corner, using a brush or your finger to blend it towards the center of the lid. Then, use a brush to form the wing, and leave the center of the lid plain for a high-fashion look.

4. Chunky Glitter Eye

Marvel’s use of star-shaped glitter created the perfect modern-day disco look for any NYE celebration. Easily achieve the look with ColourPop’s Glitter Gel ($10) for all-night wear. Even better, you’ll find chunky glitter is much easier to remove. Still, a Makeup Eraser ($20) is essential to guarantee you won’t be wiping leftover glitter off your face for the following week. 5. Shimmer All Over

When in doubt, you can always turn to shimmery shadows. Just like your LBD or glimmering accessories, shimmers never disappoint for New Year’s.
