Gal Gadot is trading her Golden Eagle Armor for a crown and gown. The Wonder Woman star, 36, is set to play Egypt’s most notorious queen, Cleopatra. Although most of the details are being tightly sealed, Gadot shared her excitement to play the queen herself during an interview with InStyle.

“I can’t reveal a lot, but I can tell you that we’re going to celebrate the Cleopatra story. We’re going to show not just how sexy and appealing she was, but how strategic and smart, and how much impact she had and still has on the world we’re living in today. I’ve watched all the Cleopatra movies throughout history, but I feel like we’re telling the story the world needs to hear now.”

Originally, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins was supposed to direct the new Cleopatra film but stepped down. Now Captain and Winter Solider director Kari Skogland took her place.

In 2020, the actress took to social media to express her excitement over her role.

“I love embarking on new journeys, I love the excitement of new projects, the thrill of bringing new stories to life. Cleopatra is a story I wanted to tell for a very long time. Can’t be more grateful about this A team!!”

Gal Gadot’s Cleopatra isn’t the first adaptation of the Egyptian queen. In 1963, Elizabeth Taylor played Cleopatra in the near four-hour film, Cleopatra. The film went on to gross over 57.8 million dollars and won four Academy Awards. In addition, Cleopatra has been written about countless times. Even the most famous playwright, William Shakespeare, wrote a play based on the relationship between Mark Antony and Cleopatra entitled “Antony and Cleopatra.”

While fans wait for more details, both of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and both Justice League films can be streamed on HBO Max and Red Notice on Netflix.
