Ariana DeBose to Host First New ‘SNL’ Episode of 2022

Saturday Night Live is ringing in the new year with a very special guest: Ariana DeBose. The NBC late-night comedy series will be making its grand return on January 15.

Ariana DeBose, the talented actress, singer, and dancer is making her debut as host of the iconic Saturday Night Live. She will be joined by Roddy Ricch, the musical guest of the night. Lorne Michaels, the creator of SNL, will undoubtedly recognize DeBose’s face, as she stars in the Apple comedy series, Schmigadoon!, which he executive produces. DeBose stars as Emma Tate.

DeBose had a big year in 2021. Most will recognize the star in Steven Spielberg’s version of West Side Story. DeBose plays Anita, an iconic role that was originally portrayed by Rita Moreno in the 1961 adaptation. West Side Story premiered in theaters on December 10 and has gone on to receive rave reviews.

DeBose’s breakout on yet another big-time stage had the actress shocked. She writes on Instagram, “Hold please while I go collect my extremities, as I have exploded from excitement and sensible fear.”

After the news broke of DeBose serving as host, the actress was surprised to find herself trending on Twitter. She writes, “WHAT! Well, this is a first.” However, once the reality set in, she shared another tweet writing, “Thank you for all the celebratory words re: SNL. I’m excited to hit the ground running to bring you a fun show Live, from NY next Saturday Night!”

Congratulations to Ariana DeBose on this well-deserved honor. Saturday Night Live will undoubtedly be off to a great start this year with her as host. In the meantime, fans can watch DeBose in West Side Story, which is still playing in theaters.
