The 2022 Golden Globes Will Have No Celebrity Presenters
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced that the 2022 Golden Globes would lack celebrity presenters as they deal with the fallout of recent controversy surrounding the group’s lack of diversity in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The results will be revealed through the Golden Globes website and social media pages. According to an HFPA spokesperson, unlike previous years, the show will also be a private event. This comes amid a surge in cases as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Their website outlines health protocols for attendees. These include a vaccination requirement (including a booster shot), a negative PCR test within two days of the event, and a mask mandate. The red carpet was also canceled.
The omicron variant sweeping through the United States is only one potential factor in this decision to limit attendance. Before the 2021 Golden Globes, the LA Times published an investigation into the HFPA’s practices.
Despite being a tax-exempt trade organization, the group was questioned for paying its members. Members are also fewer than the film academy’s, making them an easier target for those in the industry to find and attempt to sway.
The investigation in February also revealed that the group, made up of 87 journalists, contained no Black members. In May, NBC announced that they would not air the awards show until substantial change came to the HFPA.
The Golden Globes are Sunday, January 9th at 9 PM EST. This year’s nominees include movie newcomer Alana Haim for her role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza and Maggie Gyllenhaal for Best Director of her debut film, The Lost Daughter. For a complete list of 2022 nominees, click here.
