Golden Globes 2022 Announces Their Winners
The Golden Globes was kept quiet this year. The typical lavish, star-studded event was held on January 9, at the Beverly Hilton hotel. The ceremony is usually filled with glamorous celebrities accepting their award. However, controversy brewed among the Golden Globes organization provider, Hollywood Foreign Press Association. According to the organization, they weren’t holding a huge event due to Covid-19.
“Health and safety remain a top priority for the HFPA. There will not be an audience on January 9th, and the following precautions are being taken for select members and grantees who will be in the room: Proof of vaccination and booster shot, along with a negative PCR test within 48 hours, is required for entry; All guests will be masked and socially distanced at all times while inside the ballroom; There will be no red carpet,” the organization said in a statement.
Congratulations to all of those nominated and all the 79th #GoldenGlobe winners! 👏

However, NBC refused to broadcast the event due to the controversy surrounding the organization. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is an organization composed of journalists who vote for the winners. Last February, the L.A. Times investigator exposed the organization’s lack of diversity, among the eighty-seven journalists, none of them were Black. This sparked a boycott among celebrities, studios, and PR firms. Many celebrities took to social media to criticize the organization. Despite the lack of a ceremony, the Golden Globes released their list of winners via Twitter.
There were some first-time Golden Globes recipients. Billie Eilish and her brother/music partner, Finneas O’Connell won Best Original Song for the new James Bond movie entitled, No Time To Die.
