Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not be visiting the United Kingdom due to security concerns. The Duke of Sussex wishes to bring his family to the U.K. to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year mark of being on the throne.

Harry, 37, took matters into his own hands. The prince threatened legal action against the British Government if they don’t provide the protection they need. Ever since Harry was stripped of his title and royal duties and moved to the States in 2020, his family lost the tax-payer-funded security he had when he was a part of the royal family and now pays for his own security.

Harry and Meghan kept their titles as “Duke and Duchess of Sussex” despite not being a part of the royal family. During that same year, he offered to pay for his own security for when he visits the U.K. but was dismissed. Meghan, 40, expressed her fears of losing their security during an interview with Oprah in March of 2021.

“I even wrote letters to his family saying, ‘Please, it’s very clear the protection of me or Archie is not a priority. I accept that. That is fine. Please keep my husband safe. I see the death threats. I see the racist propaganda. Please keep him safe. Please don’t pull his security and announce to the world when he and we are most vulnerable.’ And they said it’s just not possible.”

Even though the couple are no longer royals, Harry still wants to take Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet to his hometown of England to celebrate his grandmother’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration–her 70 years of being on the throne–during the summer. His lawyers agreed that Harry and his family need more protection because they “have been subjected to well-documented neo-Nazi and extremist threats,” the statement read.

Harry filed a claim to the Home Office, which is in charge of policing in the U.K. sometime in September of 2021. He hopes the claim can be revised.

“The UK will always be Prince Harry’s home and a country he wants his wife and children to be safe in. With the lack of police protection, comes too great a personal risk. Prince Harry hopes that his petition — after close to two years of pleas for security in the UK — will resolve this situation.”

His legal team agreed that the prince’s own security would not be enough to protect them.

“Prince Harry inherited a security risk at birth, for life. He remains sixth in line to the throne, served two tours of combat duty in Afghanistan,” the statement read, “While his role within the Institution has changed, his profile as a member of the Royal Family has not. Nor has the threat to him and his family.”

His father, Prince Charles, invited his son and family to stay with him. Supposedly, Charles wants to spend time with their family and meet Lilibet. None of the royal family have met Lilibet. Harry and Meghan will not visit the U.K. unless extra security is provided. They have not been to the U.K. since 2020.
